Dec. 7th, 2012
Alan was feeling a little better today. He was weak but able to go to our meetings. It was the last day at the MTC for most of the Senior Couples. Only those with special assignments will be staying for next weeks training. We spent the morning in our district, working on how to help reactivate inactive members. We do a lot of role playing at the MTC and this day is especially emotional. You take the part of someone you know and love that is not active in the church and then another couple plans a lesson to teach that person. It’s emotional because it is so personal.
We are really going to miss the couples in our district. They are wonderful, capable senior couples. We all got along so well and shared some very tender moments. It is such a blessing to come here and in one week make lifetime - - - eternal friends. It will be fun to share their missions through emails.
We took lots of pictures today. They will be fun to share with our children and grandchildren.
After our closing meeting we finished up our language training at the MTC, all three days of it! We met with our trainer for an hour and then had a testimony meeting with the other senior couples that have been learning languages. I have been dreading that meeting but I worked hard on the language all day yesterday while I was home with Alan. There were four men in that meeting, including Alan, that are returning to the country where they served as young men. They bore beautiful and pretty fluent testimonies. Their wives testimonies however, were very simple and delivered at a much slower pace. We pretty much all read them, but we did it and that was the point. It was a touching meeting, even though we couldn’t understand anything the others were saying. It was evident that everyone was trying and we all empathize with each other. The Lord will bless us as we continue to try.
When we got back to the motel we found it FULL of high school kids who are here for an FHA convention. Needless to say, it was a LONG, NOISY NIGHT!!
