Jan. 22, 2013

Alan had a bad night last night and woke up with a sore throat and a full blown cold. We have got to find a way to build up his resistance. This is the second one he has had since we got here, only this one is much worse. He really felt rotten so I went into work without him. He slept a couple more hours and then came and got me at 11:00. We had to be to the other side of the island for a Zone Conference at noon.
It was nice to speak at the Zone Conference. The elders and sisters are so nice to us. This one was actually in an area where Alan had served. He remembered reading about it in the letters I saved for him. Our presentation went well and then Dr. Newman talked about the importance of exercise. He gave the missionaries some exercises to do that we can do too. However, 400 repetitions could kill me! We will start slow and work up. We’re old! On the way home we stopped at the favorite bread store and picked up some banana cake. We can’t take this exercise thing to seriously.
When we got home we found that a new dentist, Dr. Williams, had moved in next door to us. They are here as service missionaries too. Now we have 3 dentists but the Clarks and the Newman’s will be leaving this weekend. Dr. Williams and his wife will be here for a year. Someone from the church school picked them up and brought them to Liahona. They just left them. They had no Tongan money, no car and no food. I’m so grateful for the missionary welcome we received! We took them over some soup and crackers and the other dentist and his wife gave them some eggs, bread and milk for breakfast. We will make sure they get into town tomorrow so they can stock up.
I had my first Relief Society presidency meeting today. The new president is nervous and overwhelmed but excited and she really wants to do a good job. The other counselor is a lady about my age who is wise and very kind. I think we will work together well and hopefully help the sisters in our ward to feel loved and well cared for. We got a lot done today and when we can fill the other positions on the board we should be off to a good start.
Alan took some cold medicine today, which he never does, and he started to feel a little better. That made him agreeable to taking some more tonight so hopefully he will get a good nights rest.
